The day of snakes and apples

Whilest enjoying my cup of coffee the great hunter came home early this morning with his proud catch.  Unlike our neighbors and peers we do not kill snakes we find in our chicken coop, we capture them and release them into the wild.  I usually have a little chat with the serpent about not coming back and send it along.
 Horse apple hunting.
Texas cracks on the journey.

Coming home with a bucket full of horsey apples.
Clover rushes to greet us and to get his apples!

And now a nice nap!

  1. Great pics! You are more generous than I. The only good place for a snake is around your feet in the shape of Tony Lama or Dan Post boots. I never thought about releasing them.

I have picked a lot of horsey apples for our horses when we were in Cedarville, CA. We had about 6 head of horses and it was a blast.

By, the way, to answer your question, for good or bad, better or worse, I did write that song all by my lonesome.

  2. Now Sister Libby....come let us reason together. Of course you know, if you continue to release those chicken eating rattle snakes back in the wild, they will only return with all their cousins and kill more of your chickens and eat up all you eggs.

You do know that rattle snake meat makes a good burrito and you can make a nice pair of shoes and a purse from the skin. I have a great idea. I know you don't eat meat, so you can mail the rattle snake meat to Brother Ian in Canada and you can keep the purse and shoes for yourself or give them to someone for a Christmas present.

  3. looks like Clover was very excited to get the apples! how cute to be able to have the opportunity to be around horses and chickens and even snakes growing up; great opportunity for learning for Annah! loved her nap too; you would think she would be uncomfortable, but they find the most interesting positions relaxful

  5. After living in Africa, I'm not a fan of snakes! Of course we usually kill them because most of them are pretty dangerous!
